In recent times, Germany has emerged as the economic model to follow in the European Union, and it is very likely that this trend will spread to other areas, such as healthcare. The Spanish government is reported to be considering this approach, which is reasonable considering that both countries share a high degree of decentralisation and other similarities in terms of rationalisation of healthcare costs in general, and of pharmaceutical costs in particular.
